Meet the Winners: Can’t Be Evil Contest

In May, we kicked off the first-ever Can’t Be Evil contest by inviting developers to build privacy and security first apps that are user-controlled. The response was incredible and you all had such a good time competing, we decided to host another one for all of you that missed the first!

But first, it’s our honor to introduce the winners of the inaugural Can’t Be Evil Contest.

1st Prize Winners are receiving $5,000 in cash, plus other prizes and experiences. 2nd Prize Winners receive $500 in cash, plus other prizes and experiences. 3rd Prize Winners receive $100 in cash, plus other prizes and experiences. All participants that registered for the contest and completed their App Mining submission will also continue receiving monthly payouts as part of the program.

Players can also use their earnings to purchase assets within games, as well as to enter regular eSports competitions where the winner receives the pooled entry fee funds.

Wage utilizes the trust abstraction of escrow through lightning payments for people who need tasks done by people skilled enough to do them, when they need them done. We were inspired by the Lightning network’s architecture, as well as existing platforms like Steem and Fiverr.

1st Prize – Blockcharity

Blockcharity is a video browsing application for charitable organizations. Users can donate directly to charities featured on the website using bitcoin either on chain or over the lightning network. Selected charities will receive the donation either on chain or over the lightning network depending on whether or not they have a lightning wallet available. This give charities the opportunity to transition to the lightning network at any time and enjoy the benefits.

BlackHole is secure, server-less file transfer that works with blockchain technology. It’s an open-source project and available for Windows and Mac.

3rd Prize – Social Vault

More and more people are deleting their Facebook accounts every day as trust in the social network declines. However, we all have so much data stored on Facebook with all of our old posts, images and other memories. SocialVault was made so that you could #deletefacebook and take your data with you. SocialVault allows you to upload and store your Facebook profile data in a secure way. After uploading, users can browse through data such as their old posts, image albums, events they’ve attended, groups they joined, and much more.
